The national grid has collapsed for the 12th time in 2024, continuing a worrying trend of power disruptions this year.
The latest collapse occurred on Wednesday afternoon, disrupting power supply across various parts of the country.
A statement on the official Twitter handle of Nigeria’s National Grid confirmed the incident, stating: “A major grid setback has occurred, and restoration is to commence.”
Jos Electricity Distribution Company (Jos Disco) also confirmed the development in a message to its customers.
According to Jos Disco, the collapse occurred at approximately 1:33 pm, causing a loss of power supply to its feeders.
Dr. Friday Elijah, Head of Corporate Communications at Jos Disco, assured customers that efforts were underway to restore normal electricity supply as soon as the grid is stabilized.
“We hope to restore normal power supply to our esteemed customers as soon as the grid supply is restored back to normalcy,” Elijah said.
AFRIPOST reports that this marks the 12th grid collapse in 2024, following 11 recorded incidents between January and November.
The persistent failures continue to raise concerns about the stability of the national power infrastructure.
