The Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of three individuals—Muhammed Muktar (35), Nura Ibrahim (26), and Muhammed Abdullahi (30)—for their alleged involvement in the circulation of fake currencies.
Authorities seized counterfeit money totaling $3,366,000, CFA51,970,000, and ₦1.4 million, with a combined value of ₦129.5 billion.
In addition to the counterfeit currency suspects, 59 others were apprehended for various crimes, including eight armed robbers, 10 cattle rustlers, three kidnappers, one abduction suspect, and four drug traffickers.
Other arrests included six tricycle thieves, four motorcycle thieves, four fraudsters, and 22 suspected thugs, known locally as Yan Daba.
The police also rescued victims of kidnapping, abduction, and human trafficking.
Recovered items included live ammunition, three tricycles, eight motorcycles, 278 sheep, seven cattle, three parcels and 175 wraps of Indian hemp, 250 diazepam tablets, as well as jewelry, SIM cards, ATM cards, and mobile phones.
Police Commissioner Salman Garba revealed that these operations took place between November 25 and December 9, 2024.
Speaking on behalf of the commissioner, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, highlighted the positive impact of the police’s comprehensive strategy.
“Kano has become safer, with thriving businesses and residents feeling more secure in their homes,” Kiyawa stated, assuring the public of ongoing efforts to enhance security through collaboration with other agencies and community stakeholders.
