Kaduna: Police foil crime spree, neutralize bandit, arrest six suspects

The Kaduna State Police Command has reported a series of successful operations, leading to the killing of a suspected bandit and the arrest of six others, including alleged armed robbers and ammunition traffickers.

In a statement on Tuesday, the command’s spokesperson, Mansir Hassan, detailed the operations that took place between October and December.

On October 8, officers from the Kasuwan Mata Police Division, acting on intelligence, raided a brothel on Nupe Street in Zaria, where they apprehended 35-year-old Adamu Yahaya.

A search uncovered a locally made pistol, a live cartridge, and handcuffs. Yahaya remains in custody as investigations continue.

The same day, a patrol team from the Barnawa Division intercepted two suspects, Andrew Emmanuel and Mendwas Peter Bulus, during a stop-and-search operation.

The police recovered a service pistol, two Infinix phones, and suspected Indian hemp. The suspects admitted to being armed robbers active in the Kaduna area.

On December 9, police from the Dan-Magaji Division arrested three individuals behaving suspiciously along the Kano-Kaduna expressway.

A search revealed 216 rounds of 9mm ammunition and one round of 7.62x39mm ammunition. The suspects, identified as Buhari Suleiman, Jamil Yakubu, and Aliyu Abdullahi, were allegedly involved in arms trafficking.

Preliminary investigations showed Yakubu had recently purchased ammunition from Suleiman before being intercepted.

The following day, December 10, police and allied forces responded to an attack by suspected bandits in Tudu Gishere.

The joint team, including members of the Kaduna State Vigilance Service (KADVS) and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), engaged the bandits in a gunfight. One bandit was killed, while others fled with injuries.

The Kaduna Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Abdullahi, praised the officers for their swift and effective actions, reaffirming the command’s commitment to ensuring public safety.
