Justice Maimuna Abubakar of Niger State High Court 6 has issued an arrest warrant for Omokayode Lawal, the Managing Director of Polaris Bank, and the Minna branch manager over alleged contempt of court.
The court order stems from allegations of tax evasion amounting to over N1 billion, brought against them by the Niger State Internal Revenue Service through its legal representative, Muhammad Ndayako.
The defendants were absent from a court proceeding held on Tuesday, prompting the judge to take action.
According to Justice Abubakar, the arrest warrant was issued because the defendants failed to honor a court summons requiring their appearance. She directed police officers to ensure the arrest of both individuals.
The case has been adjourned to December 13, 2024, for the arraignment of the accused.
