Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, paid a visit on Monday to Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, the founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD).
The meeting took place at Babalola’s office on the university campus.
Insiders suggest the visit might be linked to a defamation lawsuit initiated by Babalola against Lagos-based human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi.
According to sources, the meeting could have been orchestrated by a former president, a mutual associate of Babalola, to explore alternative resolutions to the case.
Farotimi, a key figure in the Obidient movement, had been charged over claims made in his book, Nigeria and Its Criminal Judicial System.
Last week, Farotimi was arraigned in an Ado-Ekiti magistrate court following a petition from Babalola.
On Monday, the Inspector-General of Police filed new charges at the Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti, accusing Farotimi of cybercrime across 12 counts.
The court granted him bail of ₦50 million, but his legal team was still finalizing the conditions at the time of reporting.
During his visit, Obi also met with Farotimi at the correctional facility, suggesting his involvement in the ongoing situation extended beyond discussions with Babalola.
