FRSC launches probe into viral video of female motorist assaulting officer

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has initiated an investigation and vowed to prosecute a woman captured in a viral video physically assaulting one of its officers.

The 1-minute-25-second video depicts the woman grabbing the officer’s uniform and verbally attacking him while he deflates one of her car’s tyres at a unit office.

Despite her aggression, other FRSC officials at the scene urged restraint.

A senior officer was heard instructing, “Deflate all the tyres,” while reprimanding the woman for attacking his personnel.

In a statement released by Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, the FRSC detailed the events leading up to the incident, which occurred on November 7, 2024, along the Oko-Ado section of the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos.

The trouble began when FRSC officers flagged down a Toyota Corolla for a seatbelt violation and discovered the vehicle’s documents had been expired since December 2022.

While the vehicle’s driver cooperated, a female passenger became hostile, verbally abusing the officers and threatening legal action.

Her behaviour escalated into physical assault, which persisted even after the vehicle was impounded at the Lekki Command office.

Efforts to calm her failed, prompting the involvement of the Ajah Police Division, which arrested both the woman and the driver.

FRSC Corps Marshal commended the officers for maintaining professionalism despite the provocation.

He reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to pursuing justice and emphasized the importance of addressing grievances through lawful channels.

The FRSC reiterated its zero-tolerance policy for assaults on its personnel and urged the public to respect law enforcement processes.
