Another Labour Party lawmaker defects to APC

Must read

Another Labour Party member in Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Daniel Chollom, has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking the latest defection in a wave of exits from the party.

The lawmaker announced his decision on Tuesday, citing internal conflicts within the Labour Party as a major factor that hindered his effectiveness.

His move follows the recent defection of five other lawmakers to the APC, highlighting growing cracks within the Labour Party.

In his statement, the lawmaker expressed his support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration and its developmental initiatives, aligning himself with the APC’s agenda.

His defection was officially acknowledged in a letter read by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen during the House sitting.

The announcement, however, ignited debates among members of the House. Deputy Minority Whip George Ozodinobi refuted claims of leadership crises within the Labour Party, accusing defectors of lacking dedication.

He further suggested that those abandoning the party should forfeit their seats.

Similarly, Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda questioned the legality of the defection, pointing out that procedures like resigning at the ward level were not adhered to. He argued that such actions undermine the integrity of the legislative process.
