The Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL) has voiced strong support for Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to run for the Lagos State governorship in 2027.
The group compared his potential leadership to the succession practices often observed in religious institutions.
In a statement released on Sunday in Owerri, CONYL President General, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, defended Seyi Tinubu’s constitutional right to seek public office, emphasizing that his family connection to the president should not be a barrier to his aspirations.
“Pastors and General Overseers of churches often hand over their ministries to their sons upon retirement. Why should a young, capable leader like Seyi Tinubu be denied the chance to serve Lagos State simply because of his father’s legacy?” Ibem questioned.
The group described Seyi Tinubu as a visionary and intelligent young leader, calling his possible governorship bid a “divine call” and urging him to rise to the occasion. They argued that his leadership could bring new development and progress to Lagos State.
CONYL also called on all advocates of democracy to rally behind Seyi Tinubu’s ambition, insisting he has the competence to take Lagos to greater heights.
Furthermore, they appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to endorse his son’s candidacy, giving his blessing for Seyi to contest in the 2027 election.
