Atiku, other northern politicians, advised to postpone presidential ambitions until 2031

Former Nigerian Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has been advised to delay his quest for the presidency until 2031.

This suggestion was made by George Akume, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), during an interview on Channels Television.

Akume emphasized that the presidency should remain in the southern region to allow President Bola Tinubu to complete a potential second term, which would conclude in 2031.

He urged northern politicians, including Atiku, to set aside their ambitions for the 2027 election, suggesting that they focus on future opportunities.

“President Tinubu, as a southerner, should be allowed a second term. Those considering a presidential run from the North in 2027 should wait until 2031,” Akume stated.

He also noted that leadership opportunities would align with divine timing, saying, “If it is God’s will for Atiku Abubakar to become president, even at 90, it will happen.”
