In the early hours of Sunday, armed assailants carried out a coordinated attack on Kakin Dawa, a village in the Gidan Goga district of Maradun Local Government Area, Zamfara State, abducting more than 50 women and girls.
The attackers, equipped with advanced weaponry, stormed the community around 1:30 am, systematically moving from house to house.
A resident described the terrifying scene, stating, “Everyone fled because our village has been a repeated target for these bandits. Later, we realized over 50 women were taken.”
He urged both the federal and state governments to increase military and security presence in the region to address the growing threat.
Zamfara State has been a hotspot for violent banditry, with frequent cases of raids, kidnappings, and community displacements.
In a related incident, two explosive devices detonated on Friday in separate locations within the Dansadau District of Maru Local Government Area.
These explosions, the third in a week, occurred simultaneously on the Dansadau-Malamawa and Malele roads, further heightening tensions in the area.
