President Donald Trump issued a statement commenting on the recent escalation in Syria, where opposition forces have reportedly launched a major offensive, capturing multiple cities while claiming victory in Damascus.
Trump highlighted the rebels’ apparent preparation for a decisive move against President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
He attributed Russia’s inability to intervene effectively to its ongoing war in Ukraine, where the country has reportedly suffered significant losses, exceeding 600,000 soldiers.
Russia, long seen as a key ally and protector of Assad’s government, now appears unable to counter the opposition’s advances, according to Trump.
Trump also revisited the 2013 “red line” controversy, criticizing former President Barack Obama for not enforcing the U.S.’s stated position on Syria’s use of chemical weapons.
This, he argued, led to Russia’s deeper involvement in Syria, which he described as a strategic move to embarrass the Obama administration.
Concluding his statement, Trump underscored his belief that Syria’s ongoing conflict is not a matter of U.S. involvement.
“The United States should have nothing to do with it. This is not our fight. Let it play out. Do not get involved!” he stated.
The remarks come as the situation in Syria becomes increasingly volatile, with the potential to reshape regional dynamics.
