A violent confrontation between herdsmen and youths in Lano village, located in the Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State, resulted in one fatality and left two others injured.
The incident, confirmed by Gombe State Police Public Relations Officer ASP Buhari Abdullahi, occurred on Saturday.
According to police reports, tensions escalated after youths from Lano village blocked the Lano-Deba Road and allegedly attacked herdsmen travelling from Kuri village, killing five of their cattle.
The youths accused the herdsmen of harassing local farmers, seizing their mobile phones, and hindering the movement of agricultural goods.
In response, law enforcement officers were dispatched to the area to manage the crisis.
“Despite our efforts to de-escalate the situation, some of the youths pursued the herdsmen into the nearby bush, triggering a violent clash,” Abdullahi explained.
The confrontation involved the use of bows and arrows, leaving three individuals seriously injured.
The victims were initially treated at Deba General Hospital and later transferred to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe.
Tragically, one person succumbed to injuries sustained in the abdomen, while the other two remained under medical care.
Authorities have since restored order in the area, with police and local vigilantes actively monitoring the situation.
Abdullahi urged all parties to embrace peace and avoid further acts of violence.
