Police nab suspected killers of Aiyedatiwa’s campaign Director

Two individuals believed to be involved in the murder of Alaba Abe, the campaign director for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s reelection in Ondo State, have been taken into custody by the police.

Abe, who managed the governor’s campaign in Akoko-South Local Government Area, was abducted and killed in April at his residence in Supare Akoko.

The arrests were made by the Ondo State Police Command’s Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmilayo Odunlami, identified the suspects as 21-year-old Mohammed Sheu and 24-year-old Abubakar Umar.

Odunlami explained that on November 14, 2024, officers conducted a routine stop-and-search operation at Ikare Junction, intercepting a commercial bus heading to Owo.

During the operation, Sheu was singled out for questioning.

A voice message on his phone revealed communication with an associate discussing potential kidnapping activities, allegedly to address Sheu’s financial struggles.

Upon further investigation, Sheu reportedly confessed to being involved in multiple criminal activities, including kidnapping and robbery, in areas such as Kogi, Niger, Akoko, Ifon, Ipele, and Owo.

His confession led to the arrest of Umar, who also admitted to participating in similar offenses as part of the same gang.

The police assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang involved in these crimes.
