Grammy-nominated Nigerian artiste, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has emphasised that effective leadership is the missing link to Nigeria’s progress.
In a recent interview with Elevate Africa, he highlighted that while Nigerians are resilient and resourceful, the country cannot reach its full potential without competent leaders to guide its development.
He described Nigerians as strong-willed individuals who thrive in difficult circumstances, adding that their influence extends far beyond the country’s borders.
According to him, despite this global prominence and the inherent strength of its people, Nigeria’s advancement continues to be hindered by a lack of visionary leadership.
Expressing optimism, he stated that with the right leaders in place, nothing could impede the country’s success.
He said, “We can’t go forward without…we need the best leaders now first, that’s the most important thing.
“I tell people, I say if you can survive in Lagos or you can survive in Nigeria rather, you can survive anywhere. I feel like we’re survivors; we’re strong-willed people.
”Nigeria, if you go anywhere in the world, everybody has Nigerian friends. Whether you’re Chinese or…you have Nigerian friends everywhere in the world. I fly to do shows, Nigerian restaurants are there, and Nigerian communities are there. It just shows that we’re a force.
“I just feel the only thing is just missing is just the right leaders to lead us. Once we get that right, I don’t think there’s anything that will stop us.”
The Awuke crooner’s remarks come just days after he faced backlash over controversial comments discouraging Black Americans from relocating to Nigeria due to the country’s economic challenges.
