US Africa command official highlights Mahama’s “doable promises” ahead of Ghana’s 2024 elections

Abednego Orstin Rawlings, a representative of the United States Africa Command in Ghana, has unveiled a list of what he described as “easiest doable promises” proposed by former President John Dramani Mahama, should he be elected in the upcoming December 7, 2024, elections.

Rawlings stated that he intercepted documents and an audio recording detailing Mahama’s promises, which he believes can be achieved within four years if Mahama is re-elected as President of Ghana.

The promises, according to Rawlings, span job creation, infrastructure development, education, and security reforms.

Key Promises by John Dramani Mahama:

  1. Revival of Pomadze Feed Mill:
Mahama aims to restart operations at Pomadze Feed Mill to support poultry farms across West Africa, creating jobs in the Gomoa, Effutu, and Agona areas of the Central Region. Fish waste from coastal areas will also be used for poultry feed, offering additional income to fishmongers.
  2. Establishment of an Inland Port in Yagaba:
The proposed port in the Mamprugu Moagduri District of the North East Region is expected to create jobs and reduce conflicts caused by unemployment, while also supporting the Free Senior High School program.

  3. Revival of the Black Star Line and Ghana Airways:
Mahama plans to bring back Ghana’s national shipping and airline companies, established under Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. These initiatives are expected to create thousands of jobs and provide free tuition for first-year and some second-year university students starting in January 2025.

  4. Expansion of Passport Offices Nationwide:
New passport offices in all districts aim to make passport acquisition easier and create job opportunities for young Ghanaians.

  5. Transformation of Agbogbloshie Market:
Mahama envisions turning the market into an international ultra-modern facility, surpassing the Kejetia Market in Kumasi.

  6. Ga State University Project:
A new university dedicated to master’s degree programs is proposed for Accra, using the site earmarked for the National Cathedral.

  7. Enhanced Transportation Infrastructure:
Plans include converting the Kaneshie lorry park into an international transport terminal, revamping railway lines, and addressing traffic issues in Accra.

  8. Security Initiatives:
Military bases are proposed for Bawku and Kasoa to address chieftaincy disputes and land-guard activities, alongside a central naval command to combat illegal mining.

  9. Support for Agriculture and Mining:
Mahama promises free fertilizer distribution, revival of the Ghana Food Distribution Company, and reopening of the Obuasi Gold Mines.

  10. Improved Governance:
Assembly members will receive monthly salaries and laptops to enhance productivity.

Appeal for Support

Rawlings endorsed Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), describing him as “credible, God-fearing, and trustworthy.”

He called on Ghanaians to vote massively for Mahama, his running mate, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, and all NDC parliamentary candidates.

“This vision is God-mandated and achievable under Mahama’s leadership,” Rawlings emphasized, urging voters to make informed decisions on December 7.

The 2024 elections promise to be pivotal for Ghana, with Mahama’s proposals sparking discussions on the feasibility and impact of his policies.
