PDP Board of Trustees raises alarm over party, national affairs

Must read

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convened an emergency meeting on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at the NEC Hall of the National Secretariat.

Following a comprehensive review of the state of the party and the nation, the BoT issued a communique highlighting its concerns and resolutions.

Key resolutions raised by the board include:

  1. Party Administration Woes:
The BoT expressed deep concern over the state of the PDP, particularly the challenges surrounding its administration.

  2. Restoration of Unity:
It urged the National Working Committee (NWC) to restore internal harmony, unity, and stability by respecting the PDP constitution and adhering to the zoning of NWC offices to various geopolitical zones.

  3. Call for Unity Among Governors:
The PDP Governors’ Forum was called upon to demonstrate greater unity and collaborate with other party organs to resolve lingering issues swiftly.

  4. NEC Meeting Delays:
The BoT criticized the NWC for repeatedly delaying the convening of a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

It warned that such postponements undermine trust and risk portraying the party as being hijacked by vested interests.

  1. February 2025 Deadline:
The BoT demanded that the NWC honour its commitment to hold a NEC meeting in February 2025 to address pressing challenges and establish a clear path forward. Further delays, it cautioned, could spell doom for the party.

  2. North Central Leadership Issue:
The BoT called on leaders of the North Central Zone to convene a meeting of stakeholders to nominate a replacement for former National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.

  3. Democratic Principles:
It emphasized the need for unity and strict adherence to democratic principles to strengthen the PDP’s role as a credible opposition party.

  4. Collective Resolve Over Personal Ambitions:
Stressing that the PDP’s strength lies in collective resolve, the BoT urged party members to prioritize the shared vision for a better Nigeria over personal ambitions.

The BoT also addressed issues affecting the nation, criticizing the economic policies of the Tinubu administration.

It lamented the skyrocketing cost of living and widespread poverty, which it attributed to the administration’s “harsh economic policies.”

The BoT called for a review of these policies, urging the government to end “insensitivity, profligacy, and corruption” and focus on effective management of national resources for the benefit of all Nigerians.

The communique was presented by Senator Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees.
