JUST IN: Tension as police seal Emir of Kano’s palace

Residents of Kano are currently on edge as security forces, including police and plainclothes operatives, have heavily surrounded and blocked access to the Kofa Kudu entrance of the Emir of Kano’s palace.

The security personnel, outfitted with advanced equipment, reportedly took control of the palace early Friday morning, sealing it off around 6 a.m.

As of now, the reasons for the closure remain unclear.

A source from within the palace suggested the development might be linked to Emir Muhammad Sanusi’s plans to participate in an economic summit with key stakeholders.

Another insider speculated it could be related to his intent to appoint a district head for Bichi town, a decision previously overturned by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The Emir made an appearance at the palace, marked by traditional gunfire to announce his arrival. Meanwhile, police have used tear gas to disperse the growing crowd near the premises.
