The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has outlined its strategy to safeguard the nation’s telecom infrastructure, emphasizing the critical importance of protecting the sector now designated as Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII).
During the launch of a workshop on CNII protection and resilience in Abuja, Dr. Aminu Maida, NCC’s Executive Vice-Chairman and CEO, highlighted the transformative impact of an executive order signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to Maida, the directive provides a structured approach to address persistent issues such as vandalism, fibre-optic damage, and restricted facility access, which have long plagued the industry, causing significant financial losses and disrupting connectivity.
Maida praised the collaboration among government bodies, regulators, and industry stakeholders, describing the initiative as a cornerstone for ensuring secure and reliable communication networks across Nigeria.
The workshop, spearheaded by the National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre, represents a pivotal move in strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure.
