Lakurawa terrorist group behind Zamfara explosion – Police

The Zamfara State Police have confirmed that the newly identified terrorist group, Lakurawa, was responsible for the explosion that occurred on Tuesday in the state.

AFRIPOST had reported that the attack took place in the Dansadau district of Maru Local Government Area.

The Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Dalijan, explained that the bomb, planted under a bridge along the Dansadau road, detonated when a vehicle drove over it, resulting in one fatality and several others injured.

Dalijan stated, “Yes, there was an explosion along the Dansadau road this morning. It was caused by a bomb planted under a bridge. A motorist triggered the explosion, killing one person and injuring three others.”

“Initial investigations suggest that remnants of the Lakurawa terrorist group, who have been under pressure from Nigerian soldiers, are behind the attack. The group, reportedly attempting to escape into the Birnin-Gwari forest, has been facing intense military pressure to leave the country.

“The terrorists are currently trying to find their way to the Birnin-Gwari forest, traveling through Zamfara state. They are under serious pressure from Nigerian security forces,” Dalijan added.
