Campaign posters of former President Goodluck Jonathan have been seen across major streets in Kano, sparking speculation about his possible bid for the 2027 presidential election.
The posters, featuring slogans such as “Team New Nigeria 2027: The Goodluck Nigeria Needs—Dr. Goodluck Jonathan,” were spotted at strategic locations, including the Gyadi-Gyadi/Zoo Road flyover, Kofar Nasarawa, and State Road.
The initiative is reportedly driven by Team New Nigeria (TNN), a political movement advocating for transformative leadership.
Speaking on the development, TNN’s leader, Modibbo Farakwai, stated that the campaign is a response to widespread public demand for change.
“Nigerians are calling for a new direction in governance—one marked by effective leadership and fresh perspectives. They believe Dr. Jonathan embodies the qualities needed for this transformation,” Farakwai said.
He further revealed that TNN has established a harmonisation committee in Kano and is preparing to register as a political party with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The group claimed to have mobilized over 26 million registered voters nationwide and has already created key party structures, including a flag, logo, constitution, and manifesto.
Jonathan’s spokesperson, Okechukwu Eze, has not yet commented on the campaign.
Reacting to the development, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, a founding member of the Arewa Consultative Forum, said Jonathan has every right to contest.
“Jonathan, like any qualified Nigerian, can run for the presidency. He didn’t complete his second term after losing to Muhammadu Buhari in 2015. This could be his chance to do so,” Yakasai remarked.
