Abia State Governor Alex Otti has criticized the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for establishing a shadow government in the state, labeling the action as “treasonous” and vowing to pursue legal measures against it.
During a meeting with leaders of workers’ unions in the state, Otti expressed astonishment at the PDP’s decision to set up a parallel government, complete with a shadow speaker and commissioners.
He described the move as “baseless” and a clear display of ignorance about Nigeria’s political system.
“There is no provision for a shadow government in a presidential democracy. Such a concept is only applicable in parliamentary systems,” Otti stated.
“This is a blatant misunderstanding of our political structure. What they are attempting to create is essentially a government in exile, which is neither recognized by law nor acceptable. It is treasonable.”
The governor revealed that he has directed the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna, to address the issue within the legal framework and ensure appropriate action is taken.
Governor Otti emphasized his administration’s commitment to upholding the rule of law while discouraging any actions that undermine the state’s democratic governance.
