The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagun, and the National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, have threatened legal action against activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju over alleged defamatory statements made on social media.
Through their counsel, Johnson Usman, SAN, the PDP leaders issued separate letters to Adeyanju, demanding a public retraction of the statements and an apology to be published in national newspapers and on social media within three days.
The letters, disclosed in Abuja on Thursday, accused Adeyanju of making inflammatory and derogatory remarks aimed at tarnishing the reputations of Damagun and Anyanwu among party members, supporters, and the public.
The accusations stem from Adeyanju allegedly referring to Damagun as a “Tea man who serves tea in Femi Gbajabiamila’s house” and describing Anyanwu as a “Kilishi man” who delivers “Kilishi” to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Additionally, Adeyanju criticized the duo for allegedly failing to position the PDP as a credible opposition party.
Damagun and Anyanwu argued that these statements have caused them political embarrassment, psychological distress, and public humiliation.
They warned that failure to meet their demands for a retraction and public apology would result in both civil and criminal lawsuits.
Adeyanju, known for his vocal criticism of the PDP leadership, has previously accused Damagun and Anyanwu of prioritizing the interests of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike over the party’s broader objectives.
As of now, Adeyanju has not issued any response to the demands.
