Senate President Godswill Akpabio has assured the Board and management of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) of the Senate’s full commitment to addressing the Bureau’s challenges.
Akpabio made the pledge on Thursday when he received a courtesy visit from the CCB team, led by Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Bello, in his office.
The Senate President noted the importance of the CCB, describing it as a key government agency that plays a critical role in promoting moral integrity, disciplining public officials, and ensuring accountability.
“We don’t clear any public officer in the Senate without confirmation that they have submitted their asset declaration form to the Code of Conduct Bureau,” Akpabio stated, highlighting the Senate’s commitment to supporting the Bureau’s work.
He further praised the Bureau for outlining its vision, noting that a conducive working environment is essential for achieving its objectives.
Addressing concerns over inadequate funding, Akpabio assured the delegation that they had come to the right place at the right time.
“We will engage those responsible for budgetary allocations to ensure that the Code of Conduct Bureau is adequately funded, as its success is crucial for the country’s progress,” he said.
The Senate President added, “We have taken note of your requests and will act promptly. We are ready to collaborate with you to ensure the Bureau achieves its mandate.”
Earlier, Dr. Abdullahi Bello, CCB Chairman, outlined the Bureau’s challenges, including insufficient funding, office accommodation issues, and shortages in manpower and logistics.
He called on the Senate’s intervention to address these concerns.
