Supermarket sealed off in Lagos for selling expired products

The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has shut down Blessed Happy Homes Superstore, a supermarket located in Festac, for allegedly displaying expired products for sale.

According to Afolabi Solebo, the agency’s general manager, this action is part of LASCOPA’s efforts to eliminate the sale of expired goods in the state.

Solebo also revealed plans to take legal action against the store’s owner.

He explained that during a routine inspection on November 22, 2024, LASCOPA’s monitoring and enforcement team discovered several expired items, including baby food, which had been on sale despite their expiration dates being from 2023.

Solebo expressed disappointment over the situation, noting that the store management failed to respond to a summons from the agency. Consequently, LASCOPA obtained a court order to seal the premises.

“We will ensure the prosecution of the store’s owner. In Lagos, consumers are treated as priority,” Solebo stated.
