Stop using students for welcome ceremonies, Wike warns school principals

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to school principals against releasing students to line up and welcome him during his visits.

Wike made this clear while commissioning the construction of a 9.8-kilometre road from Kabusa to Takushara at the permanent site of Government Secondary School, Kabusa.

The minister expressed displeasure upon seeing students lined up outside their classrooms to greet him.

He criticized the practice, describing it as outdated and unnecessary, and emphasized that it would no longer be tolerated.

“It is not in our culture, and this will be the last time such a thing happens. Nobody should bring students out of their school to line up on the road,” Wike declared.

He urged school management and principals to focus on the welfare and education of students rather than engaging them in ceremonial activities.

“Our children deserve the best,” Wike added, underscoring his commitment to improving educational standards in the FCT.
