The Kwara State Government has sanctioned a secondary school teacher, Hajia Hamzat Fatimoh Nike, for assaulting a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member.
She has been demoted by two grades and reassigned from Government Day Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin, to an undisclosed location.
A disciplinary panel comprising the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, and the Chairman of the State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mallam Bello Tauheed Abubakar, determined the penalties. The decision aims to prevent similar incidents in the future.
In a joint statement, the panel concluded that Hajia Fatimoh was guilty of misconduct, including “fighting on duty, use of foul language, insubordination, and disregard for the symbolic value of the NYSC uniform.”
Her actions were deemed a violation of public service regulations, warranting the demotion and transfer.
The statement further noted that the teacher would undergo counselling and emphasized that the government strongly condemns such behavior, reaffirming its commitment to fostering respect and professionalism in schools.
It assured the NYSC management that the incident does not reflect the values of the state and will not recur.
Teachers in Kwara State were reminded to adhere to ethical standards and fulfill their responsibilities in line with established guidelines.
The government pledged to continue providing training on teaching ethics and professional conduct.
