Gunmen abduct newly-elected Councillor, eight others in Kogi

Must read

In the early hours of Wednesday, gunmen abducted nine individuals, including a newly elected councillor, in the Odo-Ape community of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area, Kogi State.

This alarming incident occurred just a week after the abduction of three others, including an eight-year-old boy, in the same locality.

The assailants reportedly stormed the community around 1 a.m., firing sporadically as they kidnapped their victims from their homes.

Among those taken are five Gwaris, two Bassa residents, and the councillor, the only indigene of Odo-Ape among the abductees.

The attack has left residents in a state of fear and uncertainty, as they worry about who might be targeted next.

A local source, speaking anonymously, appealed to the state government and security agencies for swift intervention to protect the community and secure the release of the victims.

While the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Anya, has not commented on the situation, a senior government security official confirmed the abduction.

The official stated that security operatives are actively working to resolve the matter and urged residents to remain calm and continue with their daily activities.
