A suspected bomb explosion in Yar Tasha village, Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, has reportedly claimed the lives of 12 people.
The incident occurred around 8 a.m. when a commercial vehicle carrying passengers to Dansadau town struck an explosive device believed to have been planted by bandits.
This marks the second explosive attack along the Dansadau Road within a week.
Last Sunday, a similar device detonated under an 18-seater bus, killing the driver, who was the sole occupant at the time.
A local resident, who requested anonymity, revealed that the car, a Volkswagen Golf, triggered the explosive, causing the vehicle to be blown to pieces.
“Recently, we carried out road maintenance, and it seems the bandits used that opportunity to plant the device.
“The victims have been taken to Dansadau General Hospital, but their condition remains unclear. Security forces, including soldiers and police, are now at the scene,” the resident explained.
The resident also expressed concern over the bandits’ new tactics, particularly in the Dansadau area, and urged the government to take immediate action to prevent further incidents.
“This is the second explosive attack in this area within a week. If this trend continues, road travel in Zamfara will become extremely dangerous.
“Authorities and local communities need to remain vigilant and address this alarming strategy deployed by the bandits,” the source added.
