NAFDAC dismantles fake alcohol operation, destroys goods worth N30m

Officials from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) have raided a shop in Lagos that was manufacturing and packaging counterfeit alcoholic drinks.

In a statement posted on its X handle on Monday, NAFDAC revealed that counterfeit products and related materials, valued at over N30 million, were seized and destroyed during the operation.

The agency noted, “NAFDAC uncovered an illegal production facility for fake alcoholic beverages on Offin Road, Balogun, Lagos Island. Acting on a tip-off, our team discovered the shop, which had been repurposed for producing and packaging counterfeit drinks.”

The operation led to the destruction of various bottles of fake alcohol, while packaging materials, empty bottles, and repackaged drinks were confiscated.

NAFDAC assured the public that an investigation is ongoing and urged consumers to purchase alcoholic beverages only from trusted vendors.

The agency also called on the public to report any suspicious products or activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.
