Kano Governor urges NASS to prioritize police welfare

Must read

The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has called on the National Assembly’s House Committee on Police Affairs to prioritize the welfare of police officers and ensure that resources allocated to the force are effectively utilized to bolster national security.

Yusuf made the call in a statement issued by the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Ibrahim Shuaibu, on Monday.

Governor Yusuf, represented by his Deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, made the appeal during a courtesy visit by the committee to the Kano State Government House on Tuesday.

Highlighting the severe security challenges plaguing the northwest region, Governor Yusuf noted that five out of the seven states in the zone are facing rampant violence, including kidnappings and banditry.

He urged the committee to focus on addressing these issues, which have disrupted farming activities and destabilized rural communities.

The Governor also acknowledged Kano State’s significant investments in police infrastructure, including the Police Academy in Wudil, the Police Secondary School in Shanono, and a newly established police school in Kabo Local Government Area.

He commended the police for their dedication to maintaining peace and security in Kano and revealed that the state government recently donated over 70 vehicles to the State Police Command to support their operations.

In response, the Chairman of the House Committee on Police Affairs, Abubakar Miki Yalleman, stated that the visit was part of the committee’s oversight function to assess the operations of the Kano Police Command.

He praised Kano State for its exceptional cooperation with security agencies, which he said has made the state a model of peace and effective leadership in the northwest.

Yalleman assured the Governor of the committee’s commitment to fostering collaboration with the state government to achieve better security outcomes.
