Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has been named a member of the Board of Directors at the International Institute of Communications (IIC).
The IIC is a global organization focused on advancing the telecommunications and media industries worldwide.
Dr. Maida has played a pivotal role in transforming Nigeria’s telecommunications landscape.
During his tenure at the NCC, the sector has experienced significant improvements in connectivity, innovation, and competitiveness, fostering a more inclusive environment.
In his new position with the IIC, Dr. Maida will bring his extensive knowledge and experience to the international arena, contributing to the development of policies that encourage the growth of telecom and media industries globally.
Dr. Maida’s career includes roles with prominent organizations such as British Telecom, Cisco Systems, and EE Ltd.
He also worked on the engineering team at UbiquiSys Ltd, a small-cell technology startup that was later acquired by Cisco.
Prior to his role at the NCC, Dr. Maida served as the Executive Director of Technology and Operations at the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement Systems PLC (NIBSS), where he spearheaded the modernization of Nigeria’s digital payments infrastructure, making it a cornerstone of the nation’s financial system.
Dr. Maida holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Bath, an MEng in Information Systems Engineering from Imperial College London, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Entrepreneurship from Cambridge Judge Business School.
His vast experience and expertise position him to make a significant impact on the IIC board, driving progress and innovation in telecommunications and media on a global scale.
