Lagos: Two officials sacked for stealing phones during raid

The Lagos State Task Force has terminated the employment of two personnel, Fatai Yusuf (42) and Hammed Garuba (38), for theft committed during a recent operation.

In a statement on Friday, the agency’s spokesperson, Abdulraheem Gbadeyan, confirmed the dismissals.

He revealed that the two officials were caught stealing phones during a raid at a hotel in Gowon Estate, a known hub for drug users and traffickers.

The raid, which led to several arrests, was compromised by the misconduct of the officers, whose actions were captured on CCTV.

Gbadeyan stated that a thorough investigation by the agency’s disciplinary committee found the two paramilitary officers guilty of theft. Following this, they were dismissed and will face prosecution.

The Task Force Chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele, condemned the actions of the dismissed personnel and reiterated the agency’s commitment to integrity and accountability.

Akerele issued a stern warning to all staff, emphasizing that violations of ethical standards would result in severe consequences.

According to Gbadeyan, the Task Force remains guided by principles of discipline, justice, and fairness, ensuring that any behaviour undermining public trust or the agency’s credibility is swiftly addressed.

He further disclosed that the suspects apprehended during the operation had been arraigned.

A group of 53 drug offenders from earlier raids has been remanded at the Badagry Correctional Centre, while a subsequent raid at Gowon Estate led to the arrest of 43 additional suspects and the demolition of drug hideouts and illegal structures.

These actions, Gbadeyan noted, underscore the Task Force’s dedication to eradicating drug-related crimes and maintaining public safety in line with the Lagos State THEMES Plus agenda.
