Mrs. Amuzat Fatima Nike, a teacher at Government Day Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin, has denied the allegation that she assaulted a corps member who also teaches at the Government Day Secondary School.
According to Mrs Amuzat, the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding. She claimed she questioned the corps member about not greeting people, which led to an exchange.
Amuzat denied calling the corps member a derogatory term and alleged that the corps member pushed her, causing her to fall.
She added that she regretted not recording the event to clarify the matter.
Meanwhile, the Kwara State Government has criticized the alleged assault on the youth corps member serving at Government Day Secondary School.
During a statement on Friday at the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development headquarters in Ilorin, Commissioner Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu condemned the incident, describing it as unacceptable.
She emphasized that Kwara State, known for its peace and harmony, would not tolerate any actions disrupting the tranquillity of its educational institutions.
Kawu revealed that an investigative visit was conducted by the ministry’s Anti-Loitering Team and the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission to address the situation, ensuring calm was restored.
She urged the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) management and others involved to remain patient and law-abiding while disciplinary measures are pursued against the teacher.
Morakinyo Oladipo, Head of Information and Public Relations for NYSC in Kwara State, confirmed the incident and stated that the NYSC would pursue justice for the corps member.
Oladipo also noted that the corps member would be redeployed to another location to help her recover from the alleged ordeal and ensure her safety.
