An Abuja Federal High Court has directed the release of 50 individuals accused of being members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and allegedly linked to terrorism.
On Friday, Justice James Omotosho ruled that the prosecution did not present sufficient evidence to prove their membership in an illegal organization or involvement in terrorist activities.
As a result, the court dismissed the charges against them and declared them acquitted.
Defence lawyer Ifeanyi Ejiofor earlier criticized the prolonged detention of the defendants, who were reportedly arrested in December 2023 during a funeral ceremony.
