In a gesture of support for their alma mater, the alumni association of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo State, has donated a Sienna bus valued at several million naira to the institution.

The donation, aimed at easing the movement and activities of the university’s principal officers, was made during the university’s 16th convocation ceremony on Wednesday.

The event, which also featured the annual Alumni Lecture, was held at the Folorunsho Alakija Law Faculty.

It highlighted the university’s achievements and its commitment to fostering academic excellence.

Speaking at the ceremony, the president of the alumni association, Mr. Busoye Ogunlade, noted that the group has consistently supported the university through various contributions.

Ogunlade highlighted past initiatives, such as the donation of computers to the university’s Transcripts Department to facilitate the ease of transcript processing for graduates worldwide.

“The school authorities alone cannot meet the institution’s growing needs. Alumni must contribute to its development,” Ogunlade remarked as he handed over the bus to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Timothy Adebayo.

He also emphasized the importance of alumni involvement in enhancing infrastructure and maintaining quality education.

Ogunlade revealed that the alumni association plans to launch a dedicated website in December 2024 to foster stronger connections among alumni, both locally and internationally.

He expressed optimism about the university’s continued growth and prayed for its expansion in achievements and global recognition.

The alumni association also used the occasion to honour select university staff for their dedication and long service.

In his response, Vice-Chancellor Professor Timothy Adebayo expressed heartfelt gratitude to the alumni association for its unwavering support, describing the group as a “worthy partner in progress.”

He noted that since assuming office, the association had made significant contributions to the university, including this latest gesture.

“This bus is timely, and we are deeply appreciative,” Adebayo said. He further outlined the university’s strides over the past year, including collaborations with various institutions, improved academic development, and expanded infrastructure.

Other members of the alumni executive committee, including National Secretary Yemisi Peters, were present during the handover ceremony, marking another chapter in the association’s efforts to enhance the university’s development.
