The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced that petroleum products from the Port Harcourt Refinery Company (PHRC) will be exclusively supplied to its own retail outlets.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, following the refinery’s resumption of production earlier this week.
Located in Eleme, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the refinery restarted operations on Tuesday and is expected to deliver a minimum of 200 trucks of products daily.
However, the NNPCL clarified that bulk sales to marketers have not yet begun, nor has the company opened its purchase portal.
Olufemi Soneye, NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, stated that the refinery’s output, including petrol, diesel, and kerosene, is being supplied solely to NNPCL-operated outlets for now.
“Our pricing structure is under regular review and adjusted as necessary,” Soneye added.
The announcement came amid concerns raised by the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) over the cost of petrol from the Port Harcourt Refinery.
PETROAN claimed that petrol from the refinery is priced at N75 per litre higher than that of the Dangote Refinery.
Dr. Joseph Obele, PETROAN’s Public Relations Officer, revealed that NNPCL supplies petrol to marketers at N1,045 per litre, while the Dangote Refinery offers the same product at N970 per litre.
“The price difference of N75 per litre places additional cost burdens on marketers,” Obele noted.
