Gov Sule urges Northern leaders to address Almajiri crisis without political exploitation

Must read

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has called on Northern Nigerian leaders to refrain from politicizing the Almajiri issue and instead focus on addressing the underlying challenges of the system.

Governor Sule made the appeal during the launch of a regional conference centered on critical issues, including population dynamics, security, climate change, and the plight of out-of-school and vulnerable children in Nigeria.

As the Chairman of the North Central Governors’ Forum, Sule emphasized the urgent need for collective efforts to dismantle the Almajiri system, describing it as a “ticking time bomb” that poses significant risks to the country’s stability if left unchecked.

“The Almajiri issue is a serious challenge for us,” Sule stated. “As I mentioned to my colleagues during our last Northern Governors’ meeting in Kaduna, we need to stop making excuses. It’s time to take decisive action and resolve this issue ourselves.”

He further urged leaders in the region to confront the problem head-on rather than relying on external intervention, insisting that the Northern region must take responsibility for resolving the crisis.

“Why should Northern Nigeria continue to burden the entire nation when we recognize that this is our problem? We must take ownership and find lasting solutions,” Sule concluded.
