The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly arrested Zubair, a Kano-based activist and organizer for the pro-democracy group Take-It-Back Movement (TIB).
According to TIB, Zubair was apprehended in the early hours of Thursday, with reports suggesting his arrest may be linked to a Facebook post critical of the government.
The group expressed concerns over what it described as an infringement on freedom of expression, alleging that Zubair is being transferred to Abuja. They have called for his immediate and unconditional release.
In a statement shared on its social media platforms, TIB said: “Our organizer in Kano, Zubair, was arrested by the DSS earlier today. While the official reason for his arrest remains unclear, sources indicate it is connected to a Facebook post critical of the government.”
The incident has sparked outrage among pro-democracy advocates, with many raising concerns about the shrinking space for free speech in Nigeria.
