Bauchi PDP suspends lawmaker over alleged alliance with Wike

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State has suspended Habibu Umar, the lawmaker representing Kirfi Local Government in the state House of Assembly, for alleged insubordination.

A letter addressed to the Speaker of the House, Abubakar Sulaiman, and signed by PDP Chairman Sama’ila Burga, cited violations of the party’s 2017 Constitution as the basis for the suspension.

According to Burga, Umar was issued a query on November 5, 2024, following complaints of insubordination reported by the Beni Ward Executive Committee. Subsequently, a disciplinary committee was formed on November 11, 2024, to investigate the matter.

After reviewing the case, the committee found Umar guilty of violating Sections 58 (9)(1) and (f) of the PDP Constitution and recommended his indefinite suspension as per Section 59 (4) and (5).

The suspension took effect on November 25, 2024, barring Umar from participating in any party activities until further notice.

While the official statement from the PDP focused on constitutional breaches, some sources within the party suggest that Umar’s suspension may be linked to his alleged alliance with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, which has reportedly fueled internal tensions within the Bauchi chapter of the party.
