Tinubu’s policies have devastated Nigeria – Former PDP spokesman

Must read

Kola Ologbondiyan, former national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, claiming they have worsened Nigeria’s economic challenges.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Monday, Ologbondiyan highlighted the removal of fuel subsidies and the decision to float the naira as major missteps that have plunged Nigerians into severe hardship.

He argued that Tinubu’s abrupt removal of subsidies lacked the strategic planning and gradual implementation adopted by previous PDP administrations.

“Under the PDP, subsidy removal was phased and supported by measures to cushion its impact. This administration has rushed the process without providing adequate relief for Nigerians,” Ologbondiyan said.

He dismissed the APC government’s distribution of subsidized rice as an inadequate response to the country’s economic crisis.

“Nigerians need more than rice to survive the harsh realities created by these policies,” he added.

Ologbondiyan also condemned the Central Bank of Nigeria’s decision to float the naira, noting that it has led to a significant devaluation of the currency and skyrocketing costs of living.

“The combination of subsidy removal and a free-floating naira has been devastating. These policies require careful planning, not abrupt changes that leave citizens struggling,” he said.

He called for more effective measures, including a robust public transport system and strategic interventions to stabilize the economy.

“The government must go beyond rhetoric and implement actionable, people-focused policies to address the real challenges Nigerians face,” he concluded.
