Police in Katsina State have rescued 14 passengers from an attempted abduction by bandits in Dan’arau village, located in the Magama-Jibia area of Jibia Local Government.
The Katsina State Police spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, disclosed the incident in a statement, noting that it occurred on Sunday around 7:55 pm.
Aliyu reported that armed bandits targeted two commercial vehicles on the road, aiming to kidnap the passengers.
“On November 24, 2024, at approximately 7:55 pm, armed bandits attacked two commercial vehicles at Dan’arau village on the Magama-Jibia road, firing sporadically in an attempt to abduct the occupants,” he said.
Upon receiving a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Jibia led a team of officers to the scene.
The operatives engaged the bandits in a gun battle, successfully thwarting the kidnapping and securing the release of all 14 passengers.
Aliyu added that two of the rescued individuals sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to a hospital for treatment. Tragically, one of them later died while receiving care.
