2027: Lagos PDP will support Seyi Tinubu for Governor – Youth Leaders

Must read

The Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL) has expressed strong confidence that Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will emerge as a unifying candidate for Lagos State in the 2027 governorship election.

At a press conference held in Owerri, CONYL President General, Goodluck Ibem, stated that Seyi Tinubu possesses the leadership qualities necessary to garner support across party lines, including from the Lagos State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Ibem highlighted the historical support Lagosians have shown for President Tinubu and his legacy, dismissing criticisms regarding Seyi Tinubu’s potential governorship bid as unfounded.

He pointed to President Tinubu’s track record of transformational governance and democratic principles, which, he argued, have shaped Seyi Tinubu’s preparedness for leadership.

In response to statements from the Lagos State PDP chapter dismissing the notion of Seyi Tinubu’s governorship bid as “a family affair,” Ibem expressed confidence that the PDP and other parties would support him if he officially declares his candidacy.

“We want to remind the PDP that the people of Lagos State have long supported President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which is why they voted for him and his party, the Alliance for Democracy (AD), in 1999,” Ibem said.

“The people of Lagos rejected the PDP and embraced President Tinubu’s vision and leadership. The PDP has never won the Lagos governorship election, even when the party controlled the federal government, which shows that Lagosians do not accept imposition but rather believe in true democratic leadership.”

Ibem further emphasized that true leadership is sustained through transformational performance, noting that President Tinubu has proven to Lagosians that he governs to serve the people, not to be served by them, as claimed by the PDP Lagos State chapter.
