Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, a member of the House of Representatives representing the Kiru/Bebeji federal constituency in Kano State, has expressed optimism about the passage of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills in both chambers of the National Assembly.
Jibrin, who chairs the House Committee on Housing and Habitat, shared his views during a recent appearance on TVC’s “Politics Today” program.
Jibrin believes that the tax reform bills, along with other economic policies introduced by President Tinubu, are designed to benefit Nigerians in the long term.
He emphasized his confidence in the passage of the bills, stating, “I have never had any doubt about the consideration and passage of the Tax Reform Bills. We will pass the tax reform bills.”
Acknowledging concerns from northern Nigerians who feel the reforms may not benefit them, Jibrin noted that efforts are being made to educate the public on the importance and benefits of the proposed changes.
He pointed out that the advantages of the bills outweigh any perceived disadvantages, emphasizing that those who have thoroughly examined the bills understand their long-term value for the country.
The lawmaker stressed that the tax reform bills are part of President Tinubu’s broader strategy for improving revenue generation and distribution, which are crucial for the nation’s economic survival.
While recognizing that some provisions in the bills may be contentious, Jibrin insisted that these should not prevent the bills from being debated and amended as necessary. He encouraged lawmakers to engage with the bills through the proper legislative processes.
Jibrin also criticized opponents of the bills, suggesting that many have not read them and are instead influenced by misleading narratives.
He commended President Tinubu’s commitment to economic reforms, citing the removal of the fuel subsidy and the floating of the Naira as key examples of his bold leadership.
Jibrin expressed confidence that these reforms, along with the tax changes, will ultimately strengthen the nation’s economy despite the current challenges.
“President Tinubu is making sacrifices today for a better tomorrow for Nigerians,” Jibrin concluded, highlighting the long-term impact of these transformative reforms.
