Bayelsa State Governor, Duoye Diri, has commenced his annual leave, handing over the responsibilities of governance to his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
In a statement shared on his X handle, Governor Diri announced that the leave, effective from November 25, 2024, follows a busy year since his second-term inauguration in February.
While on leave, the governor assured the people of Bayelsa that governance will continue seamlessly, with Deputy Governor Ewhrudjakpo assuming full authority over state functions.
Diri emphasized that ongoing projects and programs across ministries, agencies, and departments would not face delays during his absence.
Addressing the recent power outage in the state, Governor Diri expressed satisfaction over the progress made in repairing the vandalized power towers.
He noted that the Ahoada-Yenagoa 132kV line is near completion, thanks to the state’s intervention, which he clarified was made in the interest of the people, despite the transmission line not being under the state’s jurisdiction.
Diri acknowledged the economic impact of the blackout, particularly on local businesses, and assured that efforts to restore power were well underway. He also confirmed that additional security measures have been put in place to safeguard repair sites in Rivers State.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to long-term solutions, including the establishment of an Independent Power Plant through the procurement of new gas turbines, as part of his ASSURED Prosperity Agenda.
Governor Diri concluded his message by wishing residents a happy new week as he officially begins his leave.
