ICPC begins tracking of N21bn worth of constituency projects in Kaduna

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has launched an initiative to track constituency projects valued at N21 billion in Kaduna State.

This effort aims to promote accountability and transparency in the implementation of government-funded projects.

Haruna Aminu, Chief Superintendent of ICPC, who spoke on behalf of the Constituency and Executive Tracking Department, explained that the commission is currently overseeing 60 projects throughout the state.

The tracking began in the Kafanchan region, where 21 projects were monitored, and has now moved to Kaduna’s main town, specifically the Kabala area. A key focus is on solar-powered streetlight projects.

Aminu highlighted that while some progress has been made on the solar projects, issues have been identified, particularly with project execution.

He emphasized that the commission is determined to push contractors to complete their work, stating that no contractor will be allowed to collect government funds without fulfilling their obligations.

The official also declared an end to the era of abandoned projects, noting that the ICPC has received the necessary directives and support to hold contractors accountable.

Aminu pointed out that delays in completing projects like the solar streetlights have prevented them from having a positive impact on local communities, stressing that if finished on time, these projects would have greatly benefited the residents.

Looking ahead, Aminu assured that the ICPC’s next steps would focus on holding contractors accountable, ensuring that the public receives the full benefits of these projects as part of the democratic process.
