Customs seals petrol station in Ogun

Must read

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has shut down a fuel station in Ajilete, Ogun State, after discovering its involvement in the illegal smuggling of petroleum products to the Republic of Benin.

Staff at the station were reportedly seen filling plastic containers with petrol for illegal transportation across the border.

This action was part of a week-long operation by the Customs task force, Operation Whirlwind, operating in Zone A.

The operation also led to the seizure of N30.3 million worth of petrol and the impounding of two vehicles used by suspected smugglers in the Lagos and Ogun areas.

Comptroller Kehinde Ejibunu, National Coordinator of Operation Whirlwind, confirmed that the fuel station has been handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation and legal action.

Ejibunu stated, “Today marks another achievement for Operation Whirlwind Zone A Lagos/Ogun, under the leadership of Assistant Comptroller MI Bello.

“This operation has made significant progress in ensuring fuel availability in stations nationwide. We will persist in closing all illegal smuggling routes for petroleum products to neighbouring countries.”
