Senate refutes claims of neglecting Late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah

The Nigerian Senate has dismissed reports alleging it failed to participate in the burial rites of its late member, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.

In a statement issued by Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, the Senate described the claims as baseless, noting that the late senator was accorded full honors and recognition befitting his status.

“Contrary to insinuations from certain misinformed quarters, the Senate ensured Senator Ubah received all due honors as a sitting member of the Senate before his burial in Nnewi on Friday,” Adaramodu stated.

He highlighted that, for the first time in the National Assembly’s history, an entire legislative day was devoted to paying tribute to a deceased senator. Senator Ubah’s seat was adorned with the national flag as a mark of respect and acknowledgment of his contributions to the Senate and the constituents he represented.

“The Senate did not abandon Senator Ubah or his family from the moment his passing was announced. The Senate also extended its condolences to the government and people of Anambra State over his loss,” the statement added.

Adaramodu recalled that Senate President Godswill Akpabio, immediately after the senator’s demise, led a high-level delegation of principal officers and members of the Senate to visit the Lagos residence of the late senator, where they consoled his wife and children.
