President Tinubu celebrates professor Ibrahim Gambari at 80th birthday reception

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu today celebrated Professor Ibrahim Gambari, Nigeria’s distinguished diplomat, at a special family reception marking his 80th birthday.

The event, held at the A-Class Event Centre in Abuja, was attended by dignitaries, well-wishers, and family members, all gathered to honour Gambari’s lifetime of service to Nigeria and the world.

In his speech, President Tinubu highlighted Gambari’s exceptional career, which spans decades of dedication to diplomacy, national development, and global peace.

Tinubu referred to Gambari as a “remarkable asset” to Nigeria, noting his instrumental role in various international missions, including the United Nations’ efforts to eradicate apartheid in South Africa and his involvement in the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD).

The president also praised Gambari for his steadfast commitment to diplomacy, recalling his distinguished service under seven Nigerian heads of government and his leadership in the UN peacekeeping mission in Darfur.

“Your legacy has left an indelible mark on our nation’s foreign policy,” Tinubu stated.

As the event unfolded, it was clear that Professor Gambari’s influence extended far beyond the diplomatic sphere.

Tinubu described him as a calming presence in tense situations, a “defuser of tension,” whose expertise and passion for peace have inspired generations of public servants.

The celebration serves as a testament to Gambari’s profound impact on Nigeria and the world stage, as well as his lifelong dedication to service.

President Tinubu concluded with heartfelt wishes for Gambari’s health and happiness, acknowledging that his legacy will continue to shape Nigeria’s international relations for years to come.

As Nigeria’s foremost diplomat marks this significant milestone, the nation stands united in celebrating a true icon of peace, diplomacy, and national development.
