In a thrilling Premier League encounter, Liverpool battled past Southampton with a hard-fought 3-2 victory at St. Mary’s on Sunday.
The Reds maintained their top spot in the league with the crucial three points, bringing their total to 31 points.
The match kicked off with Liverpool taking the lead in the 30th minute. Dominik Szoboszlai latched onto a well-delivered cross to open the scoring for the visitors.
However, Southampton quickly responded. In the 38th minute, they were awarded a penalty, and though Adam Armstrong’s spot-kick was saved, he was quick to pounce on the rebound, sending the teams into halftime with a 1-1 scoreline.
The second half saw more drama. In the 56th minute, Southampton took the lead for the first time in the match, with midfielder Mario Fernandes finding the net following a brilliant assist from Armstrong.
But Liverpool wasn’t about to let the game slip. In the 65th minute, Mo Salah, as always, came to the rescue, equalizing with a well-placed strike following an assist from Ryan Gravenberch.
As the clock ticked down, both teams pressed for the winner, but it was Liverpool who found the decisive blow.
In the 83rd minute, Salah once again delivered, converting a penalty after a foul in the box, sealing the victory for Arne Slot’s men.
With the win, Liverpool secured all three points, extending their good run and keeping their place at the top of the Premier League standings.
Southampton, despite a brave performance, remained last in the Premier League table.
