PDP Govs, stakeholders strategize for party rebirth at Jos meeting

Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have reaffirmed their commitment to revitalizing the party and restoring hope to Nigerians.

This declaration came during a meeting of the PDP Governors’ Forum held in Jos on Friday night. Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, hosted the gathering, which was attended by key stakeholders and party leaders from across the country.

Governor Mutfwang expressed his gratitude to attendees, emphasizing the significance of the meeting in repositioning the PDP to better serve Nigerians.

He described the event as a critical step toward strengthening the party’s unity and capacity to fulfill its mandate.

“Although this is primarily a meeting of governors, I am delighted to see party leaders and stakeholders from various states here to support this strategic session. Our focus is not just on stabilizing the PDP but ensuring it remains a beacon of hope for Nigerians,” Mutfwang stated.

He also underscored Plateau State’s historical ties to the PDP, recalling that it hosted the party’s inaugural convention, which produced the first President of the Fourth Republic. Proudly referring to Plateau as the “Home of PDP,” Mutfwang assured the people of his administration’s commitment to social justice and empowerment.

“After years of hardship under opposition leadership, the people of Plateau have welcomed the PDP back. We are determined to improve their lives and fulfill our party’s mandate,” he added.

Senator Bala Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, praised party leaders for their unwavering support.

He reiterated the party’s unity, calling the PDP an unshakable platform capable of providing the good governance Nigerians deserve.

“The Plateau has once again shown itself as a melting pot of inclusivity under Governor Mutfwang’s leadership. The PDP remains indivisible and united despite minor challenges. Together, we will continue to offer Nigerians opportunities for better governance,” Mohammed said.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, who also serves as Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), assured supporters of the governors’ resolve to rebuild the party and restore its leadership in national affairs.

The meeting witnessed the presence of notable figures, including Governors Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), Kefas Agbu (Taraba), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), and the Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Illiya Damagum.

This gathering precedes the party’s 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, initially scheduled for November 28 but now postponed indefinitely. The NEC is expected to deliberate on the future of Acting National Chairman Ambassador Umar Ilyas Damagum and other critical issues affecting the party.
